Dr. Sali Hafez is a health justice sociologist, researcher and humanitarian specialist with fifteen years of experience spanning academia, the United Nations, humanitarian organisations and international research and evaluation. Her work examines how power, institutions, inequality and social identity shape health, protection and access to public services, particularly in conflict-affected, displacement-affected and politically complex settings. She has worked extensively across Egypt, Iraq, Syria and Palestine, alongside broader research and humanitarian engagements across the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Her expertise spans political economy, health systems, gender and gender-based violence, forced displacement, social and structural determinants of health, decolonial approaches to research and evaluation, and the sociology of humanitarian and public institutions. She has led and contributed to multi-country research, humanitarian needs assessments, evaluations, policy studies and community-engaged research for universities, UN agencies and international organisations. I have developed a comprehensive understanding of asylum and country information, especially in the context of  Iraq, Kuwait and the wider gulf region. My experience includes assessing legislative frameworks, analysing national conditions, and case law related to protection claims.

I am a Kurdish-British independent consultant specialising in Middle Eastern politics, particularly the political structures of Iraqi Kurdistan, Kurdish affairs, and regional geopolitics. I provide expert country of origin (COI) reports, political analysis, and cultural briefings for legal professionals and private entities. My work bridges lived experience, academic research, and institutional understanding, ensuring nuanced and evidence-based insight into complex political and social dynamics. I also work as an interpreter and have worked with an intelligence company as a due diligence researcher and interviewer with a focus on the Middle East.

Dr. Sana Yaseen Khudhur is an author and lecturer at the Department of Education/ Arden University.

She completed her BA in English Language and Literature at Salahaddin University/Erbil in 2011 and was awarded a scholarship to pursue MA degree in Practice of Teaching and Learning English Language. In 2014, she was awarded another scholarship to pursue a PhD in Intercultural Linguistics.

Candace Lukasik is Assistant Professor of Religion and Faculty Affiliate in Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures at Mississippi State University. Her research explores religion and the transnational politics of violence, migration, race, and indigeneity in the Middle East, specifically Egypt and Iraq, and its US diasporas. She was previously a Faculty Leave Fellow at the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis University, an AAUW American Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellow, Affiliate Faculty Member in the Department of Anthropology at University at Buffalo, and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at Washington University in St. Louis. She received her PhD in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. 

Her first book, Martyrs and Migrants: Coptic Christians and the Persecution Politics of US Empire (NYU Press, 2025) examines how American theopolitical imaginaries of global Christian persecution have remapped Coptic collective memory of martyrdom in migration. His reports have been commented upon by judges and lawyers and draw upon his diverse legal, cultural and religious experiences.
