Soran Khider

I am a Kurdish-British independent consultant specialising in Middle Eastern politics, particularly the political structures of Iraqi Kurdistan, Kurdish affairs, and regional geopolitics. I provide expert country of origin (COI) reports, political analysis, and cultural briefings for legal professionals and private entities. My work bridges lived experience, academic research, and institutional understanding, ensuring nuanced and evidence-based insight into complex political and social dynamics. I also work as an interpreter and have worked with an intelligence company as a due diligence researcher and interviewer with a focus on the Middle East.

Occupation

Expertise

I hold a BA in Politics and Sociology from the University of Brighton (2016), where my dissertation examined social and political movements, notably the PKK. I later completed an MA in International Relations at the University of Essex (2018), focusing my final dissertation on demography and independence within the context of the Kurdish question in Iraq.

My academic work has centred on Kurdish political institutions, party systems, tribal and patronage networks, and mechanisms of conflict resolution in Iraqi Kurdistan—situating these within the broader geopolitical dynamics of the Middle East.

I also lived in Iraqi Kurdistan for nearly 18 years and hold strong ties to the Kurdish community in the UK.

Experience

My professional experience spans language services and investigative research. I have worked as a screen interviewer, second-language checker, and researcher for a private investigation company specialising in immigration matters. In addition, I have served as an interpreter and cultural mediator for over a decade, both in professional and pro bono capacities.

I have also been invited to speak about Middle Eastern issues in university seminars radio shows and online discussions, by professors, radio presenters and NGOs.
