Short survey aims to help inform project looking at how best to advocate for new and better paths to regularisation
As highlighted by the Law Society Gazette yesterday and by Free Movement last month, the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) is seeking the assistance of immigration practitioners who represent or advise undocumented migrants seeking to regularise their status in the UK.
JCWI would like as many immigration lawyers as possible to respond to its short 'Routes to Regularisation Research Survey' available here.
JCWI says the information gathered from the survey will help inform its project looking at how best to advocate for new and better paths to regularisation.
The survey should only take about 5 minutes of your time and all answers will be fully anonymous and used in a manner that ensures that no individual's information can be identified.
JCWI told the Law Society Gazette: "For our campaign to really achieve the impact we'd like, we need a rock solid understanding of the undocumented population. No one knows better than immigration lawyers the complexity and narrowness of existing routes to documentation, and we rely on that expertise to make sure we have a complete picture from all across the country of what our campaign should look like and prioritise.
"We need as many lawyers as possible to take the time to respond to our survey, and help us build the strongest possible campaign for a fairer, simpler, safer system."
The charity is particularly concerned that Brexit risks a perfect storm, with tens of thousands of people losing their status under the EU settled status scheme amid a "ramping up and digitisation" of the Government's 'hostile environment' policy.
