I hold a Masters degree in Human Rights and have sixteen years experience living in the Middle East working for national and international human rights and humanitarian organisations in legal, policy and research roles. I have authored numerous in-depth legal and policy reports covering human rights and humanitarian issues in Syria, Palestine, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq.

I have experience of submitting legal reports to UN human rights treaty body mechanisms and the UN Human Rights Council as well as the Goldberg Committee (Israel).

I have written for many news outlets and contributed to books analysing the conflict, political, social and cultural developments in Syria.

I lived for sixteen years in the Middle East, primarily Syria and Palestine, working for human rights and humanitarian organisations in legal, policy and research roles. I have extensive contacts with political and civil society actors in the region. I have experience of submitting legal reports to UN Treaty Body monitoring mechanisms, the UN Human Rights Council and The Goldberg Committee (Israel).

I provide an analysis on a wide range of human rights issues including political persecution, arbitrary detention, forced displacement, gender based violence, religious/minority rights, womens rights, risks from armed groups and state security forces as well as deprivation of socio-economic rights.

I have authored numerous legal and policy reports on the region, contributed to a number of books and my journalism and research has been published in outlets such as The New York Times, Chatham House and New Lines magazine.
