Dr Manjida Ahamed

I have over 12 years of professional experience in academia and legal practice, currently working as a senior lecturer in law at Middlesex University London. My legal practice experience includes working as a junior associate at Dr. Hamid and Associates, a law firm in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Additionally, I have worked as a research assistant for the Bangladesh War Crimes Tribunal Blog and a junior research fellow for the Centre for Genocide Studies in Bangladesh. In 2018, I contributed to the drafting of an amicus curiae for a Bangladeshi non-governmental organisation regarding the Rohingya crisis, in collaboration with Red Lion Chambers, for submission to the International Criminal Court. More recently, I worked as a national consultant for the "Support Measures Study: Acceleration to Justice" in Bangladesh, partnered with NIRAS-DCAF. I have also participated in a committee of the International Law Association that focuses on “International Law and the Global Sustainable Development Goals and the Post-2030 Agenda.” 

I hold a PhD in Law from Middlesex University London, an MSt in Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford, and an LLM in International Crime and Justice from the University of Turin and UNICRI. Additionally, I possess both LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka. My research interests encompass international criminal law, human rights law, international refugee law, and customary international law.

I am an academic and researcher specializing in human rights law, international refugee law, international humanitarian law, and customary international law. I am enrolled as an advocate in Bangladesh and have previously served as a junior associate at Dr. Hamid and Associates, a law firm located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Additionally, I frequently volunteer as a resource person for discussions and talks organized by human rights organizations in Bangladesh. I am an adviser of human rights and criminal law to the Bangladesh Society of International Law.

I have expertise in writing expert reports and have recently authored a report on Access to Justice in Bangladesh. I have collaborated with various NGOs in the country and served as a research assistant for the Bangladesh War Crimes Tribunal Blog. In 2018, I assisted Red Lion Chambers in drafting an amicus curiae on behalf of a Bangladeshi non-governmental representative regarding the Rohingya situation before the International Criminal Court. Recently, I’ve worked with the Committee of International Law Association that is “International Law to the Global Sustainable Development Goals and the Post-2030 Agenda.”
