Migrant Voice said in a new report released last week that there is a huge under-representation of migrants in mainstream British media.

You can read the report Migrants Invisible in UK Media here.

Migrant Voice analysed 577 online news stories relating to migration over an 11 week period from January to April 2014, from sources including the BBC, ITV, SKY news, The Daily Mail, The Times, The Sun, The Evening Standard, and The Guardian.

Migrant Voice says its research showed that migrants' views are systematically invisible or ignored when it comes to most stories affecting migrants.

"The debate on migration takes place largely within the media, yet migrants themselves are all too often subject to a 'code of silence'," Migrant Voice said in a news release.

Migrant Voice recommends that media outlets make an effort to interview migrants for stories that affect them or are about them.

The Migrant Voice report noted that negative media headlines on migrants address topics including attitudes towards high EU migration to the UK, migrant employment, benefits tourism and the overall negative impact migrants have on British society.
