Evaluating the Effectiveness of International Development Policies in Fragile and Conflict-Affected States: A Comparative Policy Analysis of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East
Abstract
International development policies play a critical role in promoting economic growth, reducing poverty, strengthening governance, and improving human well-being. However, the effectiveness of these policies varies considerably across fragile and conflict-affected states due to differences in institutional capacity, political stability, financing mechanisms, and implementation approaches.
The study examines policy frameworks related to governance, health systems, education, social protection, food security, climate resilience, and institutional capacity development. It evaluates how development policies have influenced socioeconomic outcomes, public service delivery, institutional performance, and sustainable development while identifying the principal challenges that hinder successful implementation.
Concludes with recommendations for strengthening policy design, improving institutional capacity, enhancing donor coordination, promoting evidence-based decisionmaking, and increasing national ownership to improve development effectiveness and longterm sustainability.
