The expert is a specialist for Nepal and Bhutan – the countries in the Himalayan belt. Since he embarked on his doctoral research project in 2019, he has been assisting the UK, U.S., and European courts, including NGOs and business organisations, with country expert reports on his area of expertise. Apart from the trajectory of his academic career within the areas of his expertise, he has led community projects in Nepal and the UK – and in doing so; he has spent a substantial length of time in Nepal and with Nepali communities in the UK. Moreover, the expert actively engaged and collaborated with Nepali civil societies while working for INGOs in Nepal. He regularly travels to Nepal for research and social enterprise projects – and closely collaborates with native organisations based in Nepal and Bhutan. The Nepal-raised expert has experience of the immigration litigation process and has appeared in court to provide testimony. Besides providing country expert reports both in the form of high depth and breadth, he also provides Nepali language and cultural expertise.
The expert is currently a PhD candidate – and conducting his doctoral research on Nepali politics at Birkbeck, University of London. Prior to Birkbeck, he was associated with the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) as a PhD student. His research investigates the linkage politics between Nepali domestic politics and foreign policy; for which, he studies the characteristics and behaviours of Nepali mainstream political parties and their leaders of past and present. The expert has spent considerable time in Nepal, conducting fieldwork for projects related to his PhD and profession. He recently spent 5 months in Nepal in 2024 for a PhD project; during which time, he extensively conducted detailed interviews with Nepali political elites and bureaucrats.
Furthermore, he has interviewed people in Nepal from other social groups and professional backgrounds for his non-PhD related projects. He remains up to date with the subject-matter development within his expertise by regularly attending and contributing to academic conferences and seminars (online and in-person) as well as other Nepal and Bhutan specific events. He closely follows the media and academic development from source countries, Nepal and Bhutan, on issues regarding his expertise. The Expert is a member of the Britain Nepal Academic Council (BNAC), The Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies (ANHS), Political Studies Association (PSA), British International Studies Association (BISA) and Chatham House.

Since 2019, the expert has been actively researching and writing his PhD thesis on Nepali politics – and he plans to publish it as a book once completed in 2026. His research investigates the linkage politics between Nepali domestic politics and foreign policy in a new republican constitutional context, and it studies the patterns of behaviour and characteristics of Nepali mainstream political parties and their leaders, and of the monarchy before its abolishment in 2008.
