Description:

This session is aimed at practitioners who would like a grounding in statelessness issues, including applying for leave to remain as a stateless person, routes to acquisition of British citizenship for stateless persons, and how to evidence statelessness in the context of removal and unlawful detention.

Following this course practitioners and advisors will be better placed to:

• Advise and assist foreign nationals to make applications for leave to remain as stateless persons
• Advise and assist stateless persons applying for registration as a British citizen
• Advise and assist on how to provide evidence of statelessness to the required standard in immigration and nationality applications, and when faced by removal and detention
• Advise and assist on legal remedies

Please note that this course will not cover presenting asylum claims but it will include identifying statelessness in the context of asylum claims.

This course aims to help busy practitioner to identify where statelessness may be relevant; to advise clients on options, and to identify a durable solution.

Audience: Practitioners who work in the field of statelessness and nationality law, those experienced in other areas of immigration work who already have some knowledge of statelessness and nationality law, and those seeking a refresher/update course.
