Expertise

QUALIFICATIONS:

Expert is a lawyer who graduated from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran in 1990 (LLB), and studied for a Master’s in International Law at the University of Shiraz in 1999. Has practised as a First-Class Attorney in Iran, within both civil and criminal law.

Following completion of a PhD in International Politics and Law at Durham University in 2008, expert undertook various academic positions, including lecturing postgraduate subjects. This expert was the co-founder of Islam Law and Modernity, a research centre at Durham University, and its Associate Director from 2011 – 2014. Expert is currently a Special Advisor for the same research group, as well as advising the University's Centre for Criminal Law and Criminal Justice on Islamic jurisprudence.

Is also an expert on Islamic law, having acted extensively as an Independent Consultant and academic in various cross border public law, criminal law and human rights litigation within both English and foreign courts. And has been widely employed in immigration cases since 2003.

SPECIFIC 'AREAS' OF STUDY/EXPERTISE:

Research interests in Iranian Law and procedure, forensics and authentication of legal and official Iranian documents, ethnic and religious minorities, human rights and restrictions in Iran. Expert is known for practical knowledge and experience of the Iranian Judicial system and procedure, as well as forensic document analysis.

Experience

Since August 2002, has produced more than 200 expert reports for the IAA & the IAT and has produced reports for the EWHC Family Division; has also provided oral evidence on many occasions in these courts; all reports mainly on the subject of the Iranian Legal System, the duties and jurisdiction of particular courts, articles from the Iranian law relevant to a particular case and the reasons for a document’s authenticity.
