Fast-track deportation of foreign nationals declared unlawful
26 July 2010: The fast-track deportation of foreign nationals refused permission to remain in the UK has been declared unlawful by the High Court. A judge ruled that the Home Office policy meant people were being given "little or no notice" of removal and were deprived of access to justice.

UKBA: Changes to the certificate of approval scheme
26 July 2010: The government has today announced its intention to abolish the 'certificate of approval' scheme. A Remedial Order under the Human Rights Act 1998 has been laid in Parliament to achieve this aim.

Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules HC 96
This Statement of Changes makes an urgent change to the Immigration Rules following two court judgments concerning the extent to which requirements under the Points Based System regulating the entry into or stay in the UK of non-nationals must be set out in the Immigration Rules rather than in UK Border Agency guidance. For the avoidance of doubt and to ensure the integrity of the Points-Based System and the implementation of interim limits on Tier 2 on 19 July 2010 as announced by the Secretary of State on 28 June 2010, it is necessary to bring these changes into force immediately

Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules HC 59
to make changes to the Points-Based System (PBS) applied to non-EEA economic migrants. These changes provide for the application of a limit on applications approved under Tier 1 (General) of the PBS and to increase the number of points required to qualify under Tier 1 (General).The changes in this Statement shall take effect on 19 July 2010. However, if an applicant has made an application as a Tier 1 (General) migrant before 19 July 2010 and the application has not been decided before that date, it will be decided in accordance with the Rules in force on 18 July 2010.
