This course is suitable for those sitting the OISC competence assessment at Level 3 and may assist those sitting the Law Society accreditation exam at Level 2. It will provide delegates with a higher level of understanding of immigration and asylum law and practice, as required at OISC Level 3.
Course content
As OISC Level 3 is distinguished by competence to conduct Tribunal appeals and advocacy, the course will address the rights, procedures, scope and conduct of appeals in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber. It will also include:
- International protection, including fresh claims and any important new developments;
- UK immigration law, in particular the latest developments in the application of Article 8 ECHR to Immigration Rules and policy and developments in case law;
- EU free movement and EU citizenship law, including assessment of the proposed Brexit agreement on citizens' rights;
- British nationality law;
- Detention and bail;
- Enforcement of immigration control.
NB: Please note that due to the ground covered by the course the trainer will move at a fairly intense pace. The course will discuss the substantive knowledge AND the skills required to pass the OISC competence assessments and accreditation exams; it will also focus on those aspects of law and policy which are most topical and therefore more likely to be encountered in examinations and practice.
Edward Mynott is an OISC-regulated practising Tribunal Advocate in the First-tier and Upper Tribunal, and a member of the Law Society's Immigration Law Advanced Accreditation Scheme. He has been working in the field of immigration for over 15 years, has an extensive knowledge on all aspects of practice and regularly delivers training on all aspects of immigration law.
